SpeakEasy Stage Company Announces 2023-2024 Season

SpeakEasy Stage Company

Press Release:

THE WAIT IS OVER!

We're thrilled to announce SpeakEasy's next season: a year of hilarious comedy, heartfelt drama, and--as always--the BOLDEST theatre Boston has to offer!

This season will feature New England premieres, Tony Award-winning musicals, and exquisitely crafted plays, all helmed by some of the city's best and most innovative directors.

Our extraordinary 2023-24 season will include:

  • "POTUS: or, Behind Every Great Dumbass Are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive"  — a riotous comedy that celebrates the women who keep things running behind the scenes both in and out of the Oval Office (September 15, 2023 – October 7, 2023);

  • "THE BAND'S VISIT" (a co-production with The Huntington)— a 10-time Tony Award-winner (including Best Musical) about an Egyptian police orchestra, their night in a small Israeli town, and the healing power of music (November 10, 2023 – December 10, 2023);

  • "A CASE FOR THE EXISTENCE OF GOD"Samuel D. Hunter's (The Whale) stirring drama about two young single fathers who unexpectedly choose to bring one another into their fragile worlds (January 26, 2024 – February 17, 2024);

  • "COST OF LIVING" — a Pulitzer Prize-winning (Best Drama, 2018) play about four lonely souls and the complexities of caring and being cared for (March 8, 2024 – March 30, 2024); and

  • "A STRANGE LOOP" (a co-production with Front Porch Arts Collective) — the acclaimed (Tony Award, Best Musical; Pulitzer Prize for Drama, 2020) and audacious masterwork about a young artist grappling with desires, identity, and instincts he both loves and loathes (April 26, 2024 – May 25, 2024).

“Once again I am excited to offer Boston audiences a bold and entertaining slate of the very best contemporary plays and musicals,” said SpeakEasy Founder and Producing Artistic Director Paul Daigneault, in announcing the new SpeakEasy line-up.

“Each of these shows is uniquely theatrical and celebrates the importance of sharing our stories to better appreciate our common humanity.”

“We are also thrilled to be partnering with two of the city’s most exciting theatre companies to bring two of these great shows to Boston:  the delightful and deeply moving musical 'THE BAND’S VISIT,' which we will co-produce with The Huntington; and the bold and blisteringly funny 'A STRANGE LOOP,' which we will co-produce with Front Porch Arts Collective.”
