Auditions to be held at the Barnstable Comedy Club located at 3171 Main Street in Barnstable.

Casting 3 males and 3 females.
All roles use British accents ranging from working class to proper.
Age ranges for all roles 20’s – 50’s.
All ethnicities are encouraged to audition.
Actors will be asked to read from the script.
Scripts are currently available at both the Sturgis Library and the Hyannis Public Library.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS:

SYLVIA VAN KIPNESS: Female - A “lovely and rash romantic”. Feminine, yet strong-willed, Sylvia's attempts at true love leave her frustrated and ever hopeful for a shocking turn of events.
BEAU: Male - “Perhaps the best looking man in Britain” Logical to the point of pessimism. Beau is the type of fellow quite happy with the status quo, no matter what the status quo may be.
MARJORIE: Female - extremely pregnant (8 Months), pragmatic and a tad spicy. Unflappable in every sense of the word. Unless of course, she's in labor.
CLARKE: Male- Distinguished gent with a lover’s spirit. Always aiming to please, Clarke's kind-heartedness may lead others to take him for a fool.
DIERDRE: Female - A pretty, sometimes wise, nincompoop. Gullible is Diedre's middle name. She's awfully sweet though, if you like that sort of thing. Surprisingly capable of unexpected clarity and insight.
RICHARD: Male - A “murderous, yet gentle soul.” Born to be half of a soul-mated duo, Richard is hell-bent on finding and keeping his true love (no matter what).

Set in a lavish English country estate in 1923, Sandy Rustin's "THE COTTAGE" is a wildly entertaining and outrageously funny romantic farce where secrets fly, alliances shift, and passions ignite as Sylvia boldly exposes her year-long affair to both her husband and her lover’s wife.

With sharp wit, unexpected twists—including a potentially murderous plot—and a dazzling mix of sex, betrayal, and laughter, this modern twist on a classic British comedy takes you on a rollercoaster of love, identity, and fate that will keep you laughing and gasping until the final curtain.

ABOUT BARNSTABLE COMEDY CLUB

For many years our name alone has confused and surprised many. Let us assure you that we are NOT a "comedy club" in the sense that we are a stand-up club or a venue for similar performances. We are a community theater with a big emphasis on the word "community"! Generally we produce four main shows per season, which include a musical and three plays beginning in November through May as well as other special events such as the Annual Barnstable Village Stroll, staged readings, and acting and directing workshops. As the oldest running, live community theater on Cape Cod and one of the oldest in America, we strive to bring excellence to all of our patrons, volunteers, members and to the community. We are a MA 501(3)(c) nonprofit volunteer driven organization. Dedicated volunteers work in all areas of the theater from front of the house to performers to production to our Board of Directors.
