ABOUT THE SHOW
"FEBRUARY HOUSE" is a musical by singer-songwriter Gabriel Kahane with a story by Seth Bockley.
"FEBRUARY HOUSE" revisits the lives of luminaries, weaving their creative and romantic connections into a story that explores artistry, sexuality, and legacy.
In 1940, on the brink of U.S. entrance into World War II, artistic and literary luminaries including Carson McCullers, Gypsy Rose Lee, W.H. Auden, and Benjamin Britten shared lives of creation and freedom in a Brooklyn brownstone.
Though their time together was brief, the experience profoundly shaped their lives and work.
"FEBRUARY HOUSE," with music and lyrics by singer-songwriter Gabriel Kahane ("The Ambassador" and "Book of Travelers") and a book by Seth Bockley ("King Gilgamesh and the Man of the Wild") explores that moment in time through the lives of these artists, examining the ways people choose their family, pursue romance and lust, and thrive in a community founded on creativity..”
ABOUT THE TREEHOUSE COLLECTIVE
THE TREEHOUSE COLLECTIVE is an ensemble-based company committed to producing infrequently performed projects. THE TREEHOUSE COLLECTIVE provides a space for artists of all identities and skill levels to create work that inspires and engages our community. THE TREEHOUSE COLLECTIVE was built when a group of like-minded artists realized that the Greater Boston community needed a company dedicated to producing infrequently performed, ensemble-based work. More than the kind of work THE TREEHOUSE COLLECTIVE produced, however, was the value placed on the experience its members wanted theatre-making to be: supportive, fun, educational, and equitable. THE TREEHOUSE COLLECTIVE is committed to paying artists for their work as the company grows in a manner that is equitable and transparent.
