Seeking a large, diverse cast of performers for December musical production of "FIDDLER ON THE ROOF" 

Encouraging performers of all ethnicities and gender identities to audition. 

Note: This production does require a few child performers. Minimum age: 8

24 to 28 performers ranging in age from pre-teens to senior citizens.   

Auditions will consist of singing, cold readings from the script, and some dance movement.   

REHEARSALS: 

Sunday afternoons and Tuesday & Thursday evenings.   

LOCATION:

All auditions, rehearsals, and performances will be at Calliope Theatre, 150 Main Street, Boylston, MA

AUDITION SONGS 

Auditionees should prepare the below-listed songs from the show. Audition songs do NOT have to be memorized. 

  • Tevye: “If I Were a Rich Man” (measures 1 – 66 only) and “To Life” (measures 1 – 30 only)
  • Golde: “Sunrise, Sunset” (measures 1 – 52 only)
  • Tzeitel: “Matchmaker” (measures 1 – 70 only)
  • Hodel: “Far from the Home I Love” (entire song)
  • Chava: “Matchmaker” (measures 1 – 70 only)
  • Motel: “Miracle of Miracles” (entire song)
  • Perchik: “Now I Have Everything” (entire song)
  • Lazar Wolf: “To Life” (measures 1 – 30 only)

 Auditionees for All other Roles and Ensemble will sing “Tradition” (measures 64 – 135 only)

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS: 

The ages listed below are a general guide. Several performers will play multiple roles. Voice ranges are provided where appropriate.  

  • Tevye:   The likeable, hard-working, pious dairyman, who always sees the positive side of life. He is a proud patriarch and father of five daughters. Presented as Male. Age range 45 – 60. Baritone.
  • Golde:   Tevye’s strong-willed wife, who wishes for her daughters to live easier than she and Tevye. Presented as Female. Age range 40 - 50. Mezzo.
  • Tzeitel:   Their eldest daughter, who is in love with Motel. She is loyal to her family but challenges traditions. Presented as Female. Age range 18 - 25. Mezzo.
  • Hodel:   Their second eldest daughter, who becomes involved with and marries the radical Perchik. Presented as Female. Age range 18 - 23. Mezzo.
  • Chava:   Their middle daughter, who falls in love and runs off with Fyedka, a Russian soldier. Presented as Female. Age range 18 - 20. Mezzo.
  • Shprintze:   Their fourth eldest daughter. Presented as Female. Age range 9 - 13.
  • Bielke:   Their youngest daughter. Presented as Female. Age range 8 - 12.
  • Yente:   The village matchmaker, who is a busybody and a gossip. Presented as Female. Age range 50 - 60. Alto.
